I am a food lover, which is ironic considering I am one of the pickiest eaters on the planet.
Being a picky eater is tough. Because the foods I like are limited, so are the restaurants I enjoy and the recipes I try at home. But, I am willing to try (almost) anything once. In fact, some of the foods I enjoy – like sushi, for example – I found by accident. Ever since I met my boyfriend, who owns a catering company, I want to try new things both in and out of the kitchen. Because I am a picky eater, dinner-time can be difficult. There will be times when my family is having one meal and I’m having another.
Think back to when you were an undergrad or maybe when you had your first apartment. How often did you actually cook for yourself? How many of you actually knew how? I don’t consider myself a real cook. I know a couple of recipes that I use quite often. I’m hoping that by putting myself outside of my comfort zone, I will find recipes that I can take with me when I begin my own family.
This blog won’t be a “How To,” but a first person perspective of an average girl rediscovering food. I will catalogue my dining experiences and my culinary attempts. By the end of this course, I may share some recipe or restaurant that you may want to try on your own. This “adventure” is a matter of trial and error. In order to succeed, I will take a few risks and try new things.
No one said the road to your goals – in my case, finding new things to eat – is an easy one; there are going to be ups and downs and you just have to learn to grasp new opportunities as they are handed to you, though they may seem outside the box. This approach can be applied to any goal you are looking to achieve, as long as you have the mind to keep trying until you get the results you are looking for. With so much that is offered out there, why not enjoy it one bite at a time?
I’ll leave you with that as some food for thought, while I go feed my appetite.

This speaks to me because you’ve made your story relatable. It was not so long ago that I was a college freshman befuddled by my broiler, so the prospect of being an adventurous eater is disarming. I think that your biosketch is clearly-written and moves along at a nice pace. However I don’t think that you need most of your last paragraph. It becomes a bit general and you have previously established that your endeavor is challenging. I do love the line “With so much that is offered out there, why not enjoy it one bite at a time?” though, so I think you should keep it. It gives us a strong sense of your voice and is a cute play on your subject.
You cleaned this up nicely. I agree, the generalities at the end don’t add much, but the rest is focused and clear. You also balance letting the reader into your world without overdoing it. I really look forward to reading your journey of food discovery.
Thank you both for the feedback! I think I overstressed myself when it came to including the “why should people care and how will this help you reach your goals” aspect to this post. I don’t realize I’m doing it at the time, but when I go back and review my posts later on, some areas are obvious that I had tried too hard to make a certain point and most of the time it wasn’t even necessary. I’ll keep trying to catch myself.
